Goole Market Hall

Revitalising a community and hospitality hub

For more than a century, Goole Market Hall has been visited by the local community; however, by 2019 the building’s fabric had fallen into poor condition. Commissioned by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, a scheme of works to revitalise the building has created a vibrant community and cultural hub, attracting visitors from across the area and addressing previously low footfall levels.

Built in 1896, Goole Market Hall is a historic local landmark within the town’s conservation area. East Riding of Yorkshire Council commissioned a scheme of work to revitalise the building and centre Goole Market Hall as an essential part of the town's cultural quarter.

As part of this, modern interventions have sensitively upgraded the original hall, introducing flexible, multifunctional spaces that can accommodate community events. New kiosks are available for pop-up activities, entertainment, and independent businesses. Outside, the new Estcourt Terrace provides additional space to meet.

The scheme balances the preservation of historic architectural character with the introduction of modern facilities to create a space for everyone. The project has transformed a dormant building into a lively centre of social, cultural, and commercial activity, reinforcing its role as a focal point within the town and Goole’s civic pride.
