This private family home is a Grade II-listed, mid-16th century timber framed farmhouse which stands on the moated site of the 13th-century retreat house of the Abbots of St Edmunds Abbey. The building has undergone adaptations from the 18th century onwards, which included recent insensitive alterations.
We designed a new, contemporary kitchen wing in keeping with nearby traditional farm buildings. Conservation works were also undertaken, notably repairs to the timber frame; removal of modern plaster; removal of non-permeable external paint which was replaced with lime based paint; internal renovations.
