The Old War Office

An ambitious scheme

The iconic Grade II-listed Old War Office has been repurposed into a world-class destination and luxury hotel. Led by EPR, we helped to enable this transformation as heritage consultants.

The Old War Office is a Grade II* listed building located in the Whitehall Conservation Area; surplus to requirements, it was sold by the MOD and handed over to private owners in March 2016.

We were appointed as heritage consultants to advise and guide the client and design team through negotiations with Westminster City Council and Historic England, resulting in successful applications for planning permission and listed building consent.

We also collaborated with DaeWha Kang Design on the installation of a sculptural pavilion that sits elegantly within the courtyard of the Old War Office, alongside a five-metre wide fountain. We acted as heritage consultant and conservation architect, supporting the installation of the pavilion.
